Eating Out on Harris

Harris Distillery

Set on the shores of East Loch Tarbert, Harris Distillery is not only home to Isle of Harris Gin and The Hearach whisky, but also a welcoming stop for food and drink. Dogs are welcome in designated areas, making it an easy choice if you’re exploring Tarbert with your four-legged companion.

The distillery canteen serves a small but hearty menu, with freshly made soups and home baking during the winter months, and cheese boards and seafood plates in the summer. Pair your visit with a gin, martini or dram, and soak up the warm Outer Hebridean welcome at the heart of this working distillery.

Talla na Mara

Meaning “Centre by the Sea” in Gaelic, Talla na Mara is a community-owned café and venue overlooking the Atlantic, with panoramic views across Nisabost beach and the mountains of North Harris. Dogs are welcome, making it a lovely stop after a coastal walk or beach adventure.

Operating as a community café, Talla na Mara offers simple, comforting food such as soups, sandwiches, locally sourced tea and coffee, and delicious home baking. It’s a relaxed, friendly space that perfectly captures the spirit of Harris – scenic, welcoming and rooted in the local community.
